teamLab: Everything Exists in Infinite Continuity
Accompanying teamLab’s first exhibition at an academic art museum, this catalog traces the collective’s artistic evolution and explores its “borderless” installations through a range of interdisciplinary perspectives.
The art collective teamLab is renowned for their immersive art installations exploring themes of nature, life, and science. Based in Tokyo, many of teamLab’s artworks draw upon approaches to perspective in historical East Asian art. Central to teamLab’s work is their aim to explore the relationship between the self and the world, and new forms of perception. Founded in 2001, teamLab has grown into an international collective with specialists including artists, programmers, engineers, computer graphics animators, mathematicians, and architects.
Coedited by Vanja Malloy and Allison J. Martino, this publication features interdisciplinary perspectives on teamLab through scholars working in fields of neuroscience, biology, art history, and new media. This catalog accompanies an exhibition on the work of teamLab at the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago that presents a selection of works from the past twenty-five years. This exhibition traces teamLab’s artistic trajectory, providing a window into the collective’s creative present in its evolving body of work.
