Aleš Brezina

Aleš Brezina is the director of the Bohuslav Martinu Institute in Prague and chairman of the editorial board of the Bohuslav Martinu Complete Edition. In 1998 he reconstructed the first version of B. Martinu’s opera The Greek Passion. His recent publications include "Making Real Theatre": Bohuslav Martinu’s Music Theatre, Part I: 1913-1937, Vol. 1 + 2 (with Ivana Rentsch), Martinu and His World (University of Chicago Press, with Michael Beckerman), Bedrich Smetana and European Opera (with Ivana Rentsch), and a chapter on Czech film music in The Cambridge History of Music in Czech Lands. Brezina is a prolific composer of film, theater and concert music.
